ENGAGEMENT
Engagement is the agreement between two people to marry in the future. Across the world there are many different traditions from a down-on-one-knee proposal to a betrothal pre-arranged by families. Regardless of how the engagement occurred, committing to marriage is a huge decision and worthy of a good celebration.
Engagement ceremonies are a time for families and friends of each party of the couple to be acquainted with the other party. Small and simple or big and loud, celebrating engagement is a momentous occasion.
COMMITMENT
Formal commitment to another person is different to engagement in that it does not propose a future marriage, however it does state the intention of a full committed relationship with another person. Relationships in the 21st century are not different to days of yore, perhaps just more overt. Commitment usually pertains to monoamorous relationships but if parties to the relationship are in agreement, these may also be polyamorous. The important thing is both/all parties to a relationship are honest and willingly committed.
Commitment ceremonies can be particularly special when a party to the relationship has previously struggled with commitment or when previous events may not have projected that person would commit ever again. It is a time for appreciation of people in your life and a sharing of these people with the other party.
